Expectations for parents, students and coaches

At Stanley Middle School, we are committed to providing students with a well-rounded education that extends beyond the classroom. Our After-School Sports Program is designed to promote physical fitness, teamwork, and personal growth while instilling the values of positive competition, sportsmanship, and respect for others. Through participation in our sports program, students have the opportunity to develop important life skills and forge lasting memories with their peers.

Our Program's Core Values:

Positive Competition: We believe that healthy competition is a valuable aspect of sports. Our program emphasizes the importance of striving for personal improvement while showing respect and sportsmanship towards opponents.

Teamwork: Team sports teach students the value of collaboration and working towards a common goal. Our athletes will learn to depend on each other, communicate effectively, and celebrate collective achievements.

Sportsmanship: We expect our athletes to display good sportsmanship at all times. This includes showing respect to teammates, opponents, coaches, officials, and spectators. A handshake and a smile, win or lose, go a long way.

Fair Play: We value fairness and integrity in sports. Cheating, bullying, or any form of unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated. We encourage our athletes to compete with honesty and integrity.

Character Development: Our program aims to foster character growth in our student-athletes. We hope they will carry the lessons learned in sports into their everyday lives, becoming responsible and respectful individuals.

Expectations for Student Athletes:

  • Commitment: Student athletes are expected to attend all practices and games unless they have a valid reason for absence. Consistency is key to individual and team improvement.
  • Respect: Show respect for coaches, teammates, opponents, officials, and spectators at all times. This includes refraining from any form of verbal or physical abuse.
  • Responsibility: Take care of sports equipment and facilities. Be punctual for practices and games. Maintain good academic standing.
  • Teamwork: Encourage and support your teammates. Embrace your role within the team and work collaboratively to achieve success.
  • Sportsmanship: Win with humility and lose with grace. Shake hands with opponents after each game, and thank officials for their role in the game.

Expectations for Parents/Guardians:

  • Support: Encourage your child's participation in the program and attend games to show your support. Cheer for all athletes, not just your child's team.
  • Respect Boundaries: Let the coaches coach. Avoid coaching or giving instructions during games or practices. Respect the decisions of the coaching staff.
  • Sportsmanship: Model good sportsmanship by displaying respect for all participants, including players, coaches, and officials.
  • Communication: Maintain open and respectful communication with coaches. If you have concerns or questions, address them in a constructive manner.
  • Transportation: Ensure your child arrives on time for practices and has transportation arranged for pick-up after games and practices.

Expectations for Coaches:

  • Safety: Prioritize the safety of all athletes. Be knowledgeable about proper training techniques and injury prevention.
  • Skill Development: Focus on skill development, teamwork, and character growth. Fostering a positive and inclusive team environment.
  • Fairness: Be impartial and treat all athletes with fairness and respect. Avoid favoritism or discrimination.
