OPP KNOCKS FAQ

  1. What is OppKnocks?

OppKnocks is a program that encourages you to volunteer in your community and gives prizes for those who help the most. OppKnocks tries to find a wide range of options so you can volunteer for causes you feel passionate about. You can volunteer at Stanley, at the elementary schools, and at many other places in our community.

2.How can I sign up?

On the OppKnocks events page you can find many different volunteer opportunities. Most of them have links to sign up and the others provide instructions on how to sign up.

3. How do I get credit for my hours?

Unless you are told otherwise by the events volunteer coordinator (adult in charge), you should bring an OppKnocks gold slip to be signed. You can pick up a slip at the Stanley office or use the link on this web page. After the event, you can turn in the signed slip into the OppKnocks box in the office.

4. Can I get credit for hours that are not authorized by OppKnocks?

Yes, as long as you are not getting credit from an outside organization (ex. scouts), you can count up to 10 hours of “outside” volunteer hours. You will still need the volunteer coordinator to sign a gold slip and turn that slip into the office.

5. How do I know how many hours I have?

At the end of each semester an announcement will be made to turn in all OppKnocks slips. After those hours are counted, an announcement will be made with the names of the people with the most hours. Throughout the year you can check the leaderboard on the bulletin board across from the office to see who has the most hours. The leaderboard will be updated monthly to reflect the amount of hours you completed in the past month.

6. What are the prizes?

Everyone with more than 15 hours at the end of the year will get to participate in a pizza party one day at lunch. There is also a leaderboard and the top five people will get these additional prizes: 1st - $25 gift card, 2nd - $20 gift card, 3rd - $15 gift card, 4th + 5th - $10 gift card.

  1. Event Coordinators

Members of community service organizations can contact the Opportunity Knocks chairperson(s) throughout the year to request help at their events. The event/organization's volunteer coordinator will provide information about the volunteer information (including information about the time, date, location, job duties, number of volunteers needed and contact information) and provide a link to a sign-up. Information about volunteer opportunities are posted on the OppKnocks events page. To request student volunteers to help at your event, please send an email with the above information to [email protected].
