8th Grade English

8th Grade English Department

In 8th grade English, the goal is to provide an opportunity for growth as both readers and writers. Students will engage in various forms of reading including: class novels, independent reading, article analysis, poems, short stories, etc… and various forms of writing including: informational, argument, and narrative writing in essay and shorter form.

Students will deepen their understanding of literary elements, author’s craft, analysis, central idea, theme, and the writing process.  Utilizing text evidence will be an active part of the process. Each unit you can expect a variety of texts to work with and writing assignments to produce. Additionally, students will be challenged to engage with each other in various speaking and listening scenarios, including projects, presentations, debates, and formal discussions.

Canvas is utilized for accessing lessons, submitting work, and will be the primary form of communication for both students and parents.
